About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

As a Financial Accountant within our Commercial Finance team, you will play an important role in supporting Heritage’s financial performance and growth by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong balance sheet disciplines and contributing to an efficient month-end close process.

This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified Chartered Accountant who is looking to broaden their experience in a large and complex organisation. You may be making your first move from a professional services environment or already working in a corporate finance team and looking for greater ownership and exposure across financial reporting, audit, balance sheet management and capital expenditure accounting.

Working closely with the Finance Manager and Senior Financial Accountant, you will contribute to monthly and annual reporting processes, support audit requirements, maintain financial integrity across key accounting areas and help identify opportunities to improve and automate finance processes.

Our Corporate Services office is currently based in Johnsonville and will relocate to the Wellington CBD in November. Flexible working arrangements are available, including the opportunity to work from home up to two days per week.

Skills & Experience | He pūkenga tou

Possess genuine respect, empathy and interest in others.

  • Hold a degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • Be newly CA qualified through CAANZ or an equivalent professional body.
  • Have experience within a Big 4, professional services or medium-to-large corporate environment.
  • Demonstrate strong financial accounting knowledge, including month-end processes and balance sheet management.
  • Be confident preparing journals, reconciliations and supporting financial reporting requirements.
  • Have strong analytical skills and a keen eye for detail, ensuring work is completed accurately and on time.
  • Be comfortable working with financial systems, reporting tools and large volumes of financial data.
  • Demonstrate initiative, accountability and a willingness to continuously improve processes and ways of working.
  • Be an effective communicator who collaborates well with colleagues and stakeholders across the business.
  • Experience with TechnologyOne, Jedox or Power BI would be advantageous but is not essential.
